It Is the First Whisky Michael Mittermeier Has Created

Michael Mittermeier is one of Germany's best known comedians. He was born in 1966 in Dorfen, Upper Bavaria, broke through with “Zapped” in 1996 and has performed in English in New York and London, at the Edinburgh Fringe and at Just for Laughs in Montreal. He has won the Deutscher Comedypreis six times, the Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis in 2021, and in 2026 he was named main prize winner of the Bayerischer Kabarettpreis.

Whisky has never been a sideline for him. He has been a great fan of Scotch single malt for years. In his video podcast “Mittermeiers Whisky Montag”, every glass came with a story, told the way only a comedian can. So his first whisky had to carry more than his name. It had to bring his art and his passion together.

Together with the award winning St. Kilian Distillers, he now presents Lucky & Punch, two single cask single malts. Each one comes from exactly one cask. Both are not chill filtered and keep their natural colour, and every label carries the words “by Michael Mittermeier”. Our guide to what single cask means on a label explains the term in detail.

Mittermeier Chose Both Casks Himself at St. Kilian

These whiskies were not picked from a catalogue. Mittermeier travelled to St. Kilian in Rüdenau, Lower Franconia, walked through the warehouse and tasted his way from cask to cask. In the end he chose the two casks that would carry his name, Cask Nr.9394 and Cask Nr.5914. The result is a pair that could hardly be more different.

St. Kilian Distillers is based in Rüdenau. Founder Andreas Thümmler and his partners set out in 2012 to build Germany's largest whisky distillery, and Mario Rudolf is its master distiller. According to the distillery, it was named Distillery of the Year in 2023 and World Class Distillery in 2023 and 2025 at the World Spirits Award.

On the collaboration, Michael Mittermeier says: “For me, making whisky is an interplay of creativity, craft and tradition, quite comparable to comedy. While I present my art on stage, whisky unfolds its magic in the glass and on the tongue, and I am proud to now present my very own first expressions. The makers at St. Kilian really know their craft, and together we have landed two real hits. With Spiritory, we also have a retail partner that stands for fine whisky.”

The Name Comes From His Comedy Club, Lucky Punch

Lucky Punch is the comedy club Mittermeier has run with his wife Gudrun since 2023, with venues in Munich and Vienna. “Lucky Punch” was also the name of one of his stage programmes. The name stands for the unexpected hit that lands against all odds.

For his first whisky, Mittermeier split the name in two. Lucky stands for the softer, sweeter cask, Punch for the one that hits harder. Side by side, the two bottles spell out the name of his club again, yet each has a character of its own.

Lucky Matured in a Former Moscatel de Setúbal Cask

Lucky comes from Cask Nr.9394. The cask previously held Moscatel de Setúbal, a sweet fortified wine from Portugal. It is made from Muscat grapes on the Setúbal peninsula, south of Lisbon. The whisky was distilled in July 2022 and is bottled at 46.7% ABV.

Lucky is also the lighter bottle of the two, with clear glass and a white and copper label. Mittermeier himself calls it the softer, sweeter cask. To learn how a cask's earlier contents can shape a whisky, read our guide to what each cask finish does to a whisky.

Punch Is Heavily Peated at 80 ppm

Punch comes from Cask Nr.5914, a cask that previously held Tawny Port, a port that ages for a long time in wood and slowly takes in air. The whisky is heavily peated at 80 ppm, was distilled in November 2020 and is bottled at 48.3% ABV.

Punch is Lucky's counterpart, with matte black glass and an oxblood label. Here heavy peat meets Tawny Port. Mittermeier calls Punch the cask that hits harder. If you are new to smoky whisky, our guide to what peated means is a good place to start.

There Are 500 Bottles of Each, Only on Spiritory

There are 500 bottles of each whisky, all 500 ml. Lucky & Punch is sold nowhere else, and both whiskies are available exclusively on Spiritory. Preorders opened on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at 11:00 CEST.

Anyone in Europe can order. Spiritory delivers to whisky lovers and collectors in 11 European countries, and home delivery ships from 26 October 2026. If you would rather have your bottle signed in person, preorder with store pickup by 16 October.

Mittermeier Presents the Whisky in Munich on 23 October

The whisky unveiling of Lucky & Punch takes place on Friday, 23 October 2026, from 5:00 pm at the Spiritory Shop at Stemmerhof, Plinganserstraße 6, 81369 Munich, Germany. Michael Mittermeier will be there in person and signs the bottles in front of the guests.

Anyone who preorders with store pickup up to and including 16 October picks up their bottle that evening and has it signed by him in person. A limited number of bottles will also be on sale in the shop. Preordering is still the surest way to get yours.

Tip: If you cannot decide, Mittermeier's own idea behind the names helps. Lucky stands for the softer, sweeter cask, and Punch, with 80 ppm of peat, for the one that hits harder. Only together do the two bottles spell out the name of his comedy club.
