Recensione: St. Kilian Terence Hill – Whisky (mild)
Just as his meatier brother (see my review on St. Kilian’s Bud Spencer Whisky), this 70‘s blue-eyed womanizer starts off quite unassuming: The nose is very simple, and if I may be honest, I do not get anything significant beyond a very standard and watery oak aroma next to a hint of the wet straw that is so typical of Irish whiskeys. But just as the Spencer/Hill movie characters always quietly sit in some run-down saloon that is being torn down by some bad guys and do not get up and fight until their food or drink gets spilled, you finally get St. Kilian’s rum casks on the palate, and luckily so, because the distillery’s very particular and direct style of conveying woody flavors is something that desperately needs a counterpart to be enjoyable, and the sweetness of the rum casks does just that. In contrast to the Amarone-influenced Bud Spencer whisky, however, this sweetness merely counters the dram's overly oaky elements, but does not quite manage to transform them into something weirdly interesting as is the case there. The finish is a little nicer with this one than with the BS, however, mainly because of the lingering creamy sweetness, but I have to rate the TH a little lower than the BS, nonetheless, as it is lacking in the excitement department, making it a rather unremarkable dram.
