Torabhaig The Distillers' Series: Niall's and Iona's First Editions

Torabhaig The Distillers' Series: Niall's and Iona's First Editions
Torabhaig is launching a new limited release format on 15 September 2026, and for the first time the distillery is handing the recipe book to members of its own team. The Distillers' Series begins with two single malts, one shaped by Niall Culbertson and one by Iona Hope, each bottled at cask strength and limited to 5,250 bottles globally.
What is The Distillers' Series?
The Distillers' Series is an industry first: an ongoing range in which Torabhaig's own distillery staff, rather than a master blender, choose the casks and compose each recipe. The two debut releases arrive together on 15 September 2026, and each expression carries a cask strength, a defined peat level, and a named author from the team. Torabhaig, a distillery on the Isle of Skye, describes the series as a way to let the people who make the whisky shape what it becomes.
Torabhaig The Distillers' Series Niall's First Edition is bottled at 59.3% ABV, and Torabhaig The Distillers' Series Iona's First Edition sits slightly higher at 60.9% ABV. Both are non chill filtered with no added colour, and both are drawn from the same production run: a Concerto base malt with 5% brown malt and 5% dark crystal, peated to 12 to 15 ppm spirit phenols.
Niall's First Edition: Rum Cask and Island Childhood
Niall Culbertson composed Niall's First Edition to capture the maritime character of his childhood journeys to the bay by boat. The whisky, part matured in ex rum casks, leads with tropical fruit on the nose: cooked pineapple, guava, and vanilla with a hint of sweet char. The palate brings juicy orange, malty biscuit, sea salt, and brine over a lightly oily texture, and the finish is long and warming with complex spice and ashy peat.
At 59.3% ABV, it is a tropically fruited dram whose rum cask character carries through a long, softly smoked finish. Torabhaig describes Culbertson's composition as rooted in the coastal landscape of Skye, with the boat journeys that shaped his connection to the sea.
Iona's First Edition: A Sherry Cask Counterpoint
Iona Hope's First Edition takes the same base distillate in a different direction. Bottled at 60.9% ABV, it is softly inviting on the nose with vanilla sweetness, creamy cocoa butter, dark chocolate, malted cereal, citrus, and subtle tropical notes. The palate warms with clove, peppermint, old spice, caramel, toffee, redcurrant, raisin, toasted oak, and a thread of ginger, leading to a long, vibrant finish of ginger, peppercorn, cinnamon, and a softening vanilla.
Where Niall's edition leans into tropical fruit and coastal brine, Iona's is a high strength, gently spiced, fruit forward dram built around sherry cask influence. Together the pair show how one distillate, peated to the same spec, can be reshaped entirely by cask selection.
