Rare Find Launches The Long Game With a 36 Year Old Macallan, 38 Year Old Tormore and 34 Year Old Deanston
A Collection Built on Time
Rare Find, the award winning independent bottler from Edinburgh, has introduced The Long Game, a collection dedicated to single casks that have spent more than three decades in wood. The focus is on provenance, cask influence and the character that only develops over very long maturation.
Together, the first three releases represent more than a century of maturation and a combined outturn of 288 bottles. All are bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration and in natural colour.
James Zorab of Rare Find said: "Whiskies of this age demand the right cask and the right decisions over decades of maturation. These are not releases where age alone does the talking. What connects them is the quality of the whisky after more than three decades in cask."
Macallan 36 Years Old
The rarest of the three, the Macallan 36 Years Old, was distilled in 1990 and matured in refill sherry butt 11317. It yielded only 18 bottles at 54.1% ABV, with a recommended retail price of £2,500.
Nose: luxuriously honeyed, with honeycomb, Manuka honey and beeswax, mirabelle plum, peach Melba, milk chocolate, white pepper and a dusty dunnage floor.
Palate: syrupy and expressive, moving from stone fruit into tropical fruit, with golden tobacco leaf, cinnamon, polished oak and steeped tea.
Finish: long and sweet, with tropical fruit and honey as the oak and tea fade.
Tormore 38 Years Old
The Tormore 38 Years Old was distilled in 1988 and spent time in a first fill Oloroso sherry barrique. Cask 26087 gave 198 bottles at 54.6% ABV, with a recommended retail price of £595.
Nose: golden syrup, rich toffee and warm custard with crisp apple peel, a gentle earthiness and soft marshmallow.
Palate: polished oak with crème caramel, alfalfa honey and wine gums, and a dry, dusty spice developing with time.
Finish: elegant and lingering, with grassy fruits and honey fading into a delicate impression of fine mead.
Deanston 34 Years Old
The Deanston 34 Years Old was distilled in 1991 at the former cotton mill near Doune and matured for its entire life in second fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butt 001. It gave 72 bottles at 48.8% ABV, with a recommended retail price of £325.
Nose: lacquered mahogany, stewed plums, Christmas pudding, roasted almonds and berry compote, with a touch of mentholated oak.
Palate: restrained yet profound, with fruit cake, polished wood, dried tobacco, cracked leather, raspberry liqueur and cinnamon.
Finish: refined, with mature oak and stewed fruits giving way to the malty sweetness of malt loaf.
A Highland Park for Vault Members
Alongside the collection, Rare Find is releasing a Highland Park distilled in 1989 and finished in a refill port octave. Bottled at 51.9% ABV and limited to 67 bottles at £695, it is reserved for members of the Rare Find Vault, who can pre-order it from 30 October 2026.
