Yamazaki has released a new limited edition built on Spanish oak. Yamazaki Refill Spanish Oak Limited Release Edition 2026 is a Japanese single malt bottled at 48% ABV, made from spirit distilled in 2014 and 2015 and matured in refill Spanish oak casks.
A Long Relationship With Spanish Oak
Yamazaki was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii and is known as the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Its relationship with Spanish oak has been long and important, and over more than 100 years of continuous refinement its makers have deepened their knowledge of how different cask woods shape the spirit.
This release shows another side of that legacy. Refill Spanish oak casks reveal a surprisingly different dimension, and the label calls the result a vibrant expression of Yamazaki Spanish Oak that explores the bright and fruity notes of the distillery's finest refill casks.
Distillation, Casks and Flavor
The whisky was distilled in 2014 and 2015 and bottled in 2026. It combines lightly and medium heavily peated malt and pours a brilliant amber.
The nose offers stewed apricot compote baked with cloves and nutmeg. The palate brings fresh cherries with dried figs, charred peach and shaved cacao, and the finish turns to rich, fruit forward coffee notes and wood smoke.
