The Caskhound Unveils Bold Double Release from Glen Garioch and Glenallachie
The Caskhound Unveils a Bold Double Release Featuring Glen Garioch and Glenallachie
The independent bottler The Caskhound, also known as Tilo Schnabel, presents two remarkable single cask whiskies under the banner "Expect the Unexpected." This new double release continues the narrative of casks that defy expectations, offering whisky enthusiasts a chance to explore contrasting profiles from two distinguished Scottish distilleries. Highlighting the lineup is Glen Garioch 13 Years Old 2013 Tilo'S Proof The Caskhound No. 14 , a 13-year-old Highland Single Malt from Glen Garioch matured exclusively in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel.
Maturation & Flavor Profile
The Glen Garioch 2013 aged for 13 years in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel, a choice that eschews sherry or wine casks, delivering an unexpectedly tropical fruit aroma palette. This expression is a departure from the distillery’s typical spicy-herbal Highland style, instead offering pronounced coconut, vanilla, and ripe mango notes reminiscent of a rum cask influence.
Conversely, the Glenallachie 2016 from the Stillman’s Gold series matured initially in a refill ex-bourbon cask, followed by an extended 5.5-year secondary maturation in a first fill Sauternes barrique. This additional ageing in French sweet wine casks transforms the whisky into a rich and opulent Speyside single malt, revealing dessert-like tones layered with honey, caramel, and citrus, complemented by fine tannins.
