The Caskhound Double Release: Auchentoshan 2016 & Blair Athol 2013

The Caskhound Double Release: Auchentoshan 2016 & Blair Athol 2013
The Caskhound’s Double Release: Auchentoshan 2016 and Blair Athol 2013
The Caskhound, led by Thilo Schnabel, introduces a compelling double release featuring two distinct single malts: a 10-year-old Auchentoshan 10 Years Old 2016 Tilo’s Proof from the Lowlands and a 12-year-old Blair Athol 12 Years Old 2013 The Caskhound 50 cl from the Highlands. This pairing showcases contrasting styles—bourbon-matured lightness versus sherry-matured depth—offering whisky enthusiasts a chance to explore the true expression of distillate without finishes or filtering. Both bottlings adhere to the principle of purity, with no coloring, chill filtration, and natural cask strength.
Maturation & Flavor Profile
The Auchentoshan 10 Years Old 2016 Tilo’s Proof is fully matured in ex-bourbon hogsheads, embodying Auchentoshan’s classic triple distillation and Lowland elegance. Expect a fresh, fruity character punctuated by subtle cask influence that highlights lemon peel, grapefruit, and delicate vanilla notes.
In contrast, the Blair Athol 12 Years Old 2013 The Caskhound 50 cl spent its maturation solely in a second fill sherry butt, allowing the Highland distillate to take center stage. The whisky expresses a creamy, spicy complexity with nutty undertones and restrained sherry influence, emphasizing Blair Athol’s distinctive, calm Highland character.
