The Talisker Magma 47-Year-Old introduces the oldest expression ever released by the Skye distillery. This ultra-aged single malt, limited to just 622 bottles worldwide, embodies nearly five decades of maturation paired with an innovative volcanic cask finish. Talisker 47 Years Old Magma captures the elemental spirit of Skye’s rugged volcanic coastline and offers whisky enthusiasts a rare, sought-after collectible.

Design & Presentation

Talisker Magma is presented in a sculptural bottle crafted from 100% recycled glass, featuring a gradient fade from clear to black. This design evokes the meeting of ocean depths and molten volcanic stone. Each bottle is sealed with a hand-sculpted glass stopper inspired by volcanic obsidian, ensuring subtle uniqueness in every release.

Maturation & Flavor Profile

This whisky was first matured for decades in refill American oak hogsheads before receiving a finishing period of four months in new American oak casks toasted using highly heated volcanic rocks sourced from the Isle of Skye. Unlike traditional open-flame methods, this volcanic rock toasting process gently warms the casks’ interiors without direct contact, preserving fruit complexity and enhancing depth. Bottled at a strength of 48.8% ABV, Magma balances sweet smoke, mineral salinity, and warming spice, expressing Talisker’s signature maritime character refined by its extraordinary aging and finish.

• Nose: Gentle minerality with sea-washed wet rocks, dry seaweed, salt crystals, and sweet Scottish toffee; faint sandalwood and a distant smoky bonfire note develop, especially with water.

• Palate: Smooth, creamy texture with a complex mineral salinity blending with sweet toffee and an elemental spicy warmth; volcanic smoke and sweetness flow like lava, maintaining Talisker’s classic chilli pepper kick, though smoother.

• Finish: Long and balanced with mouth-cooling Sichuan pepper notes and a persistent warming glow.
