Störtebeker Distillery Celebrates Rasender Roland Centenary with Special Whisky Editions

In a remarkable collaboration, the Störtebeker Distillery in Alt Reddevitz, located in the southeast of Rügen, introduces a commemorative whisky blend marking the 100th anniversary of the iconic narrow-gauge steam locomotive 53 Mh, known as the Rasender Roland. This handcrafted blend of grain and malt whisky is released in two editions, bottled at 45% and 40% ABV respectively, both paying tribute to the enduring legacy of the steam train. The launch coincides with Easter 2026, and the whiskies are available exclusively through Spiritory. Störtebeker Distillery Jubilee Edition 50 cl and Störtebeker 50 cl represent this unique partnership between rail history and whisky craftsmanship.

Maturation & Flavor Profile

Both editions showcase a maritime and subtly smoky character, the smoke evocative of the coal fired locomotive that inspired them. The 45% ABV jubilee edition delivers harmonious warmth with aromas of fine vanilla and dark malt. On the palate, it reveals buttery puff pastry, baked bread notes, a slight fruitiness, and a hint of salt, all aging in oak barrels near the Baltic Sea which imparts a modern Nordic profile. The standard 40% ABV version offers a milder, softer body with the influence of wheat, barley, and a touch of smoked malt. Its tasting profile leans towards malty sweetness, playful apple notes, unripe pear, and butter biscuit nuances. Both expressions are filled into 50 cl bottles visually inspired by the steam locomotive 66 4633.

The two expressions, Störtebeker Distillery Jubilee Edition 50 cl and Störtebeker 50 cl , are accessible through Spiritory starting Easter 2026.
