Six New Independent Bottlings: Thompson Bros. and Gordon & MacPhail
Six New Independent Bottlings from Thompson Bros. and Gordon & MacPhail
This week brings an exciting set of new whisky releases available through Spiritory, featuring four expressions from the renowned independent bottler Thompson Bros. alongside two distinguished Germany-exclusive single casks from Gordon & MacPhail. These releases showcase a range of styles—from Islay’s smoky intensity to Highland elegance and rare single grain offerings—appealing to both seasoned collectors and curious newcomers.
Maturation & Flavor Profile
The Thompson Bros. highlight includes the Thompson Bros. 8 Years Old 2017 , a Laphroaig distilled in 2017 and matured for eight years in refill barrels before bottling at cask strength of 57.1% vol. This uncolored, non-chill-filtered expression captures the classic Islay peat profile in a rare independent bottling.
Other Thompson Bros. releases include a 12-year-old Highland single malt Thompson Bros. 12 Years Old 2013 Cask Nr.314378 , bottled at 50.1% vol. cask strength from a recharred hogshead; a Bowmore 19-year-old Thompson Bros. 19 Years Old 2006 Cask Nr.25134 matured in a refill cask, presenting a salty-smoky character at 51.4% vol.; and a 34-year-old single grain from Invergordon Thompson Bros. 34 Years Old Cask Nr.5039 matured in a refill hogshead and bottled at 40.1% vol. cask strength. These expressions emphasize traditional maturation techniques with cask choices that enhance their distinctive regional profiles.
Gordon & MacPhail offers two exclusive single casks for the German market featuring their Connoisseurs Choice series: the Gordon & MacPhail 17 Years Old 2008 Connoisseurs Choice Tomatin 17-year-old distilled in 2008, aged in a refill sherry hogshead and bottled at 55% vol.; and the Gordon & MacPhail 17 Years Old 2010 Connoisseurs Choice Cask Nr.313534 Caol Ila 17-year-old from 2010, matured in a refill American hogshead and bottled at 56.2% vol. cask strength, showcasing robust fruit and smokey layers.
The Thompson Bros. 8 Years Old 2017 Laphroaig stands out as an accessible entry point at an RRP just under €60, limited to 575 bottles. Other Thompson Bros. releases carry bottle counts of 254 for the Clynelish 12 Years, 199 for the Bowmore 19 Years, and varying availability for the Invergordon 34 Years Old.
Gordon & MacPhail’s Germany exclusives are limited to 318 bottles of the Tomatin 17 Years and 276 bottles of the Caol Ila 17 Years, both carefully bottled non-chill-filtered and uncolored, ensuring a natural whisky experience.
All six bottles, including Thompson Bros. 8 Years Old 2017 , Thompson Bros. 12 Years Old 2013 Cask Nr.314378 , Thompson Bros. 19 Years Old 2006 Cask Nr.25134 , Thompson Bros. 34 Years Old Cask Nr.5039 , Gordon & MacPhail 17 Years Old 2008 Connoisseurs Choice , and Gordon & MacPhail 17 Years Old 2010 Connoisseurs Choice Cask Nr.313534 , are available through Spiritory, offering exceptional quality and diversity for whisky lovers and collectors.
