Isle of Raasay 2021 Hungarian Oak Limited Release Unveiled
Isle of Raasay Distillery Unveils 2021 Hungarian Oak Limited Release
The Isle of Raasay Distillery continues its innovative Oak Species Maturation Series with the Isle of Raasay 2021 Hungarian Oak Limited Release . Bottled at 50% ABV and limited to 8,000 bottles worldwide, this new single malt shines a light on the Quercus petraea oak from Hungary’s Zemplén Mountains. Combining both peated and unpeated Raasay spirits, the whisky offers complexity with a lightly peated character notable for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Maturation & Flavor Profile
Departing from previous releases, this edition is fully matured in ex-Oloroso sherry barriques crafted from Hungarian oak rather than virgin oak casks. This cask choice softens the oak’s natural spiciness while enriching the whisky with deep dried fruit notes characteristic of Oloroso sherry influence. The marriage of peated and unpeated barley spirit—distilled between January and June 2021 and vatted in February 2026—creates a balanced profile where the spicy oak and fruity sherry integrate smoothly.
Tasting Notes
• Nose: Orange peel, roasted hazelnuts, geranium, cinnamon, ginger, sponge cake
• Palate: Ginger, coffee, sherry, dark chocolate
• Finish: Lingering sweet orange, ginger, and smoky bacon
