The Piccadily Distillery, under the guidance of Master Distiller Surrinder Kumar, renowned for establishing the global reputation of Indian single malts with Amrut, has unveiled its latest creation: Indri Agneya. This lightly peated Indian single malt whisky, matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks, will soon be available in Germany through importer Prineus. With a recommended retail price of €44.90, the release highlights India’s growing presence in the international whisky market.

Design, meaning, and maturation

The name Agneya comes from Sanskrit, meaning “belonging to fire”, a fitting tribute to the whisky’s delicate smokiness. Its maturation in both sherry and bourbon casks brings layered complexity, combining sweetness, spice, and gentle peat. The whisky is presented as part of the distillery’s standard range, yet its character and refinement set it apart.

Tasting Notes of Indri Agneya

• Nose: Chocolate and vanilla sweetness with hints of spice, dried apple, apricot, fruit jam, and earthy peat undertones.
• Taste: Tropical fruits such as mango and ripe banana, layered with toffee, spices, and dry peat smoke. Melon adds freshness, rounded by a soft smokiness.
• Finish: A blend of sweet and salty nuances, smooth and smoky with lingering fruity sweetness and gentle spice.
