German Whisky at the Spirits Selection by CMB: Two Gold, Eight Silver

German Whisky at the Spirits Selection by CMB: Two Gold, Eight Silver
Ten medals in Madeira
The 28th Spirits Selection by CMB took place from 16 to 18 October 2026 in Madeira, its first edition in Portugal. An international jury assessed more than 2,300 spirits from over 70 countries and territories in blind tastings.
From Germany, ten whiskies won a medal: two Gold and eight Silver. The official results of the competition show this.
Two Gold medals with Stonewood
Both Gold medals went to whiskies bearing the Stonewood name. The Stonewood Woaz Marsala One 9 Years at 50.2% ABV comes from Schraml, The Stonewood Distillery. On the nose the jury notes honey, caramel, nuts and poached pear.
The Malts of Germany Stonewood Whisky Batch No. 2 5 Years comes from Malts of Germany, at 49.6% ABV. Here the jury notes nuts, caramel and sweet spices on the nose.
Eight Silver medals
Silver went to the Stonewood Drà PX One 7,5 Years (46.5% ABV), The Nine Springs Single Malt Whisky 9 Years (46% ABV), the Weyermann RoggStar 6 Years from Franconia (44% ABV), the Penninger Bavarian Single Malt (43% ABV), the Troad Bavarian Whiskey (42% ABV) and the SinGold Whisky Single Malt Tawny Port Cask First Fill (46% ABV).
They are joined by two whiskies from Lost&Found Selected Single Cask by the bottler Cask & Craft: a 12 year old (53.9% ABV) and a 28 year old from a Calvados cask (49.8% ABV). The competition lists both under Germany, but types them as Scotch Whisky.
How Germany compares
According to the published figures, the whisky category had 171 entries from 25 countries and territories, and 82 of them won a medal: six Grand Gold, 33 Gold and 43 Silver. Of the 17 whiskies from Germany, ten were recognised, about 59 percent against about 48 percent for the category as a whole.
That puts Germany third for whisky medals, behind China (12) and France (11) and ahead of Scotland (9) and India (7). No Grand Gold went to Germany. The category Revelation went to a Chinese pure malt for the first time.
Stonewood and Nine Springs on Spiritory
The ten winning whiskies are not listed on Spiritory. It does list other whiskies from Stonewood and The Nine Springs, which are not among the ten, such as the Stonewood 5 Years Old 2021 Dra and the The Nine Springs 9 Years Old Pedro Ximenez Cask.
