Diageo Launches Rare Series: A Collection of Ultra-Rare Scottish Whiskies

Diageo introduces the Rare Series, a prestigious new collection unveiling five ultra-rare single malts from iconic Scottish distilleries. The inaugural lineup features Talisker 33 Years Old 1992 Rare Series , Caol Ila 42 Years Old 1983 Rare Series , Glenury Royal 55 Years Old 1970 Rare Series , Clynelish 42 Years Old 1983 Rare Series , and Blair Athol 34 Years Old 1991 Rare Series . Notably, the Glenury Royal 55 Years Old 1970 Rare Series stands as the oldest single malt Diageo has ever released at 55 years old, sourced from the long-closed Glenury Royal distillery.

Maturation & Flavor Profile

Each whisky represents a distinct expression of its distillery’s character and history. The Glenury Royal 55 Years Old 1970 Rare Series was matured in American oak hogsheads before marrying in European oak puncheons, creating a majestic and refined whisky. The 33-year-old Talisker 33 Years Old 1992 Rare Series was partially finished for over 20 years in Amoroso-seasoned American oak hogsheads, contributing to an exceptionally long finish and profound richness. The Caol Ila 42 Years Old 1983 Rare Series is Caol Ila’s oldest release, matured in American oak casks and married in European oak puncheons, balancing power with elegance. The Clynelish 42 Years Old 1983 Rare Series was matured in American oak hogsheads, showcasing signature waxy notes and floral top notes of lavender and rose. Finally, the Blair Athol 34 Years Old 1991 Rare Series was matured in ex-Sherry European oak casks then finished in Pedro Ximenez-seasoned new American oak hogsheads, layering depth and sweetn ess.

An anthology of Scotland’s diverse whisky styles, matured to perfection across decades.
## Master Blender’s Statement

Diageo’s Master Blender Dr Craig Wilson highlights the collection’s significance: “Rare Series celebrates the remarkable breadth of Scotland’s scattered whisky treasures. From Talisker’s experimental richness to Glenury Royal’s historic legacy, each expression reflects rarity, diversity, and meticulous craftsmanship.”
