The Annual Cask Strength Edition Returns
Bunnahabhain has unveiled the 12 Years Old Cask Strength 2026 Edition, the yearly cask strength version of its unpeated Islay single malt. The new edition is bottled at 55.8% ABV after 12 years of maturation.
As every year, the strength changes with the casks chosen. For 2026 the distillery combined equal parts first fill Oloroso sherry casks and bourbon casks.
Sherry Richness, Bourbon Brightness
The distillery describes the release as one that "offers a different perspective on Bunnahabhain's signature sherried house style, bringing the character of our unpeated Islay spirit into sharper focus."
The Oloroso brings classic sherry richness, while the American oak of the bourbon casks softens the structure with a brighter sweetness and a creamier texture. Bunnahabhain calls the result "a bold yet balanced Bunnahabhain, with richness and complexity that never need to be overpowering."
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: raisins, figs and dates intertwine with honeyed vanilla, fading to reveal cinnamon and clove, with underlying coastal freshness.
Palate: stewed fruits and comforting spice, balanced by creamy vanilla and toasted coconut, with a gentle maritime note.
Finish: long and evolving, with dried fruit and spice gradually giving way to a touch of dark sugar and polished mahogany.

The 2026 edition is available now in the Bunnahabhain online shop for just under €110, and according to WhiskyExperts it will also reach German retail in limited quantities.
