Bowmore Brings Back The Devil's Cask
Bowmore has released Bowmore 10 Years Old The Devil's Cask 2026, a 10 year old Islay single malt fully matured in hand selected, first fill Oloroso sherry casks. The name returns more than a decade after the original Devil's Casks bottlings. The new edition is not released to shops in Germany, so it is rarely seen on European shelves.
The Legend Behind the Name
The name comes from a Bowmore legend. As the distillery tells it, the Devil was once chased through the town, hid in the distillery and made his escape in a whisky barrel.
Between 2013 and 2015 Bowmore told that story in three Devil's Casks releases. All three were 10 years old, bottled at cask strength and shaped by first fill Oloroso sherry casks. The 2026 edition keeps the age and the sherry, at a more approachable 40% ABV.
Maturation and Character
The whisky spends its full 10 years in first fill Oloroso sherry casks, chosen by hand. Bowmore describes the result as richer and darker, with the distillery's gentle Islay smoke meeting the depth of the sherry. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 700 ml bottle.
Design and Presentation
The label is black with fine red lines that swirl like flames, under the arched Bowmore name, Est. 1779 and "The Original Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky". The bottle comes in a bright red gift box covered in black line art of the devil from the legend, with a gold trident at its centre.
Release and Availability
