Ballina Distillery Returns to County Mayo with Two New Irish Whiskeys

Ballina Distillery, an artisanal whiskey producer founded over a decade ago on Ireland’s west coast, unveils its first two new expressions since rebranding from Connacht Distillery. Located in County Mayo and revived in 2015 through the restoration of Duffy's Bakery, Ballina Distillery stands out for its commitment to small-batch production, exclusively using 100% Irish ingredients and handling every stage of whiskey making on-site. This hands-on approach promises authentic expressions built on tradition and craftsmanship.

Maturation & Flavor Profile

Ballina offers two distinct whiskeys showcasing different wood combinations and distillation methods. The Ballina Dúbailte , a double-distilled Double Wood Signature Whiskey, matures in a thoughtful mix of bourbon (55%) and Oloroso sherry casks (45%). This balance yields a sweet, rich complexity that introduces the core range with classic notes from both cask types.

Meanwhile, the Ballina Triarach represents a triple-distilled Triple Wood Whiskey matured across bourbon (50%), Oloroso sherry (40%), and ruby port casks (10%). This combination brings a deep, layered character that juxtaposes tradition with modern elegance.

An artisanal revival of Irish whiskey rooted in local terroir and expert craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes

Ballina Dúbailte Nose: Light with honeyed sweetness and hints of green apple, pear, and honeydew melon
Palate: Medium-bodied; vanilla fudge and butterscotch evolving into raisins, dried fruits, warming spice, and subtle nuttiness
Finish: Warm and lingering with notes of walnut and honey

Ballina Triarach Nose: Stewed plums and poached pears with delicate Christmas spices
Palate: Rich and full-bodied; fruity plums and caramel sweetness with figs, dates, and a nutty undertone
Finish: Long and full-bodied, echoing banana bread and spices

Release & Availability

The two whiskeys, Ballina Dúbailte and Ballina Triarach , are now available for a limited time through Spiritory. Both expressions come in standard 700ml bottles, emphasizing the distillery’s dedication to small-batch exclusivity and refined Irish whiskey production.
