Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 25 Years Old Arrives on 12 October

The wait has a date. The Ardbeg 25 Years Old Vintage_Y2K 2026 will be released on 12 October 2026, and preorders are already open on Spiritory. It is the third and final bottling from a stock of spirit Ardbeg laid down in 2000, and the distillery has given it a fitting nickname: The Smoky Anomaly.

A Final Upgrade From the Year 2000

Laid down in 2000, left for 25 years, and finished for the very end of the series.

Ardbeg built the Vintage_Y2K series around the panic of 1999, when the world braced for the millennium bug. For Ardbeg, 2000 turned out to be a big year. The renovated distillery was running again, and this spirit was made on the old Ardbeg stills. According to Ardbeg, the casks were then left for 25 years until Dr. Bill Lumsden found the whisky unfinished and chose one last finish for it.

The launch film plays with the same idea. It presents the bottle as a final download, with retro computer windows, a progress bar reaching 100% and a glowing wireframe cask, a playful nod to the year the stock was born.

Bourbon Casks and a Numanthia Wine Finish

The whisky spent its 25 years in bourbon casks before Dr. Bill Lumsden finished it in casks that had held Numanthia wine from Spain. It is bottled at 48% ABV, non chill filtered, and Ardbeg describes the colour as pale bronze.

What Ardbeg Says It Tastes Like

On the nose, Ardbeg finds a very subtle smoke with smoked blackcurrants, chilli chocolate and a curious hint of aged balsamic vinegar. A few drops of water bring out linseed oil, creosote and smoked paprika.

The palate is rich, spicy and smoky, with coffee grounds, dark chocolate, smoked fruits and a touch of BBQ spare ribs. Classic Ardbeg medicinal notes of menthol, eucalyptus and camphor sit alongside paprika, mustard seed and sweet chilli. The finish is long and zesty, with lime pickle and tar.
