Ardbeg has reached the final chapter of its Vintage_Y2K series with the Ardbeg 25 Years Old Vintage_Y2K 2026, the oldest and rarest bottle the distillery has saved for last. The whisky comes from spirit distilled in 2000, the year Ardbeg returned to full production after years of uncertainty, and was made using the distillery's old still, which was retired in 2001.

Design and Presentation

Each release in the Vintage_Y2K series has carried its own colour from the RGB spectrum. For this final edition, Ardbeg pairs its signature black with red, giving the packaging a chunky, early computer feel that nods to the turn of the millennium without turning the bottle itself into a novelty.

Maturation and Flavor Profile

For the first time at Ardbeg, Dr. Bill Lumsden finished the whisky in Tempranillo red wine casks from Bodega Numanthia in north west Spain. Bottled at 48% ABV and non-chill filtered, the whisky carries tasting notes of chilli chocolate, smoked blackcurrant and paprika, followed by coffee, spare ribs, menthol and lime pickle.

The Vintage_Y2K Trilogy

The series began in 2024 with the Ardbeg 23 Years Old Vintage_Y2K, matured in Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks. A 24 Years Old followed in 2025 with an Amontillado sherry finish. The 25 Years Old closes the trilogy with its detour through Spain, the only edition of the three finished in red wine casks rather than sherry or bourbon, and the only one made from spirit distilled using Ardbeg's retired old still.
