Whisky Fairs
Every year there are numerous whisky fairs — many of which also feature a selection of other spirits — but who are they actually for, and why should you go?
In short: for everyone! Whether you are a seasoned enthusiast looking to deepen your knowledge, expand your home bar and discover new expressions, or a newcomer eager to explore the world of fine drams — a whisky fair offers the ideal setting. At these events, many distilleries, brands and independent bottlers present their portfolios at dedicated stands. Visitors can sample a curated range of whiskies and often other spirits such as rum, gin, brandies or liqueurs for a small fee.
Connoisseurs gain fresh perspectives, while newcomers develop a better understanding of their own taste preferences and often discover a passion for whisky along the way. Exhibitors usually guide guests through the tasting process — starting with the nose, followed by the palate — and help bring aromas and flavours to life. Gradually, your palate expands, allowing you to identify more nuances with each dram. Many popular bottles can also be purchased directly at the stands. Info: The small but fine fair in the vaulted cellars of the time-honoured Rüsselsheim fortress offers a very warm and communal atmosphere for a joyful exchange of spirits by the glass. Info: The Whisky Spring Fair transforms Schwetzingen Castle into THE whisky mecca for the 11th time. With over 40 exhibitors, including producers, distilleries, importers, retailers and independent bottlers and more than 1,400 open tasting opportunities, there is plenty to discover here. Info: Southern Germany's largest trade fair for premium spirits with an international festival character since 2005, where over 100 exhibitors offer everything your heart desires, from whisk(e)y to r(h)um, gin, tequila, fruit brandies, beers, cognac, genever, grappa, liqueurs, chocolate, tobacco, cigars and vodka. For all cocktail and long drink lovers, there is the ‘Mixology’ station, the so-called Cocktail Corner, where a wide variety of treats are conjured up. 17.-18.04.2025 Kempener Whisk(e)y Konferenz
Location: Konferenzloft Kempen, Wiesenstraße 4, 47906 Kempen
Info: This exciting exhibition is making its way into the whisky scene's trade fair programme for the 5th time. But this trade fair ticks differently. When buying tickets, you can choose between attending the fair online or in person in Kempen. The ticket price also includes a sample set, which will be sent to your home or can be collected from the shop. This is intended as a blind tasting with 6 whisk(e)ys from 6 different countries to give a foretaste of the whisky fair. The secret of the samples will be revealed on the Saturday of the fair. So everyone, connoisseur or not, can indulge their imagination and happily note down their first thoughts on the whisk(e)ys. An adventurous self- and sensory test, but with whisk(e)y. Info: Jens-Uwe Altmann has been organising the annual Whisky Fair Festival in Limburg an der Lahn since 2001. The popularity of the fair in the whisky community has ensured that there has also been an autumn edition at a different location (Bad Homburg) since 2023. Thanks to the extensive supporting programme and the numerous international speakers, well-known and new exhibitors from the spirits industry, both newcomers and advanced drinkers get their money's worth! The tasting programme covers 140 exhibitors with over 5,000 open bottles of whisk(e)y, r(h)um, gin, Armagnac, cognac, (fruit) brandies, vodka and much more, as well as exclusive tastings/seminars. Info: There are 300 whiskies, rums, gins and other spirits on tap. Rarities and special bottlings are also available for those interested.
