I'm a whisky enthusiast and a writer in the making. I enjoy exploring new flavors, learning about the history behind each bottle, and sharing what I discover along the way. This blog is my space to grow, connect, and raise a glass with others who love whisky as much as I do. Lately, my curiosity has also led me into the world of whisky investment — where passion meets potential. From limited-edition releases to collectible casks, I’m fascinated by how whisky can be both a personal pleasure and a smart asset. Here, I’ll be writing not only about taste and tradition, but also about value, rarity, and the stories behind the bottles that are worth watching — and maybe even holding onto. Whether you sip it, study it, or store it, there's something here for you

I fell in love with whisky and Scotland in 2016. A while later I started working in the whisky industry in various departments and would never want to work in any other field again. Whisky is not just a drink or a hobby. It is a lifestyle. And although there are great different whiskies in this world, I'm afraid I've become strongly attached to Scotch. My clear preference is for independent and generally smaller distilleries and whiskies from independent bottlers. But in particular whiskies with over 46% vol. (ABV) and exciting cask maturations. I am drawn in especially to maturation in sweet wine casks. I also enjoy a finish for flavouring with pre-maturing in American or ex-bourbon casks. My taste is quite open, from strongly peaty and slightly smoky to spicy-sweet unpeated whiskies. For me, the perfect whisky must have a story to tell. My favourite whiskies include Arran Amarone Cask Finish, Bunnahabhain 12 year old, Edradour 10 year old and Isle of Raasay Dun Cana Sherry Quarter Cask. At 50% ABV, uncoloured, non-chill-filtered and finished in Italian sweet wine casks, the Arran whisky has a balanced and broad range of flavours and is neither watered down nor too mild. My ‘go to’ for any occasion! What fascinates me about whisky, apart from the flavour, is the traditional history and craftsmanship behind it. I find in-house malting floors exciting, farm distilleries, the distillation process and cask management. The attention to detail plays an important role. As a whisky enthusiast with a very fine nose and an absolute nerd in the field, I write about distilleries, whisky production methods, maturation processes, whisk(e)ys themselves and their tasting notes. I'll be starting a blog on Instagram soon and sharing my hobby there as inspiration for others @dramsandstills At this point all that remains is to say, Slàinte Mhath! (Cheers in Scottish gaelic)

Independent bottler with a focus on lesser bottled but well known distilleries with known characteristics. I have a strong preference for robust Highland Distilleries with nuance, but good Whisky can be found in any region. In the last years since founding the indie brand with some of my closest friends I have visited countless distilleries, also behind the scenes, and tried even more whiskies, I'd estimate around 2.000. I acted as an expert on several fairs and events and know the current cask and indie market in Germany in and out. A main job outside of Whisky, living in a happy relationship in the South of Germany. Travelling, Sports, Board Games & Games, everything Heavy Metal and of course Whisky take up most of my free time.

I am in love with the world of whisky since 2021 after the first films about testing and discovering flavors. the story began with a bottle of Talisker 10, earlier of course brands such as glendifich or johnie walker appeared but it was Talisker that opened my eyes to the diversity of flavors and scents. currently with over 800 whiskies tried and head over heels in love with the climates of islay. finds his flavors in bottles such as ardbeg or lagavulin but I also willingly reach for peated whiskies such as glendronach sweet fruity climates of Speyside. I am currently looking for a variety of flavors in an independent bottler and of course looking for “white crows” of the world of whisky and whenever the opportunity arises tries bottles from distilleries called unique. privately a happy husband for several years, living in the Netherlands working in the production department holding the position of team leader of the team. Music has always been very important to me, so I also enjoy a good drama accompanied by my favorite creators.

Since a trip to Ireland in 2017 and a visit to Tullamore DEW, I have been fascinated by the water of life and (like many others) have gradually gotten into the subject. Since I like to share my fascination with whisky and whiskey with others, I created the Instagram channel schwarz_mit_whisky at the end of 2023, where I still regularly share my pictures and experiences today. The best thing about whisky for me is the variety; I'm always on the lookout for new bottlings, crazy finishes and nice people who share my passion.

I started my Whisky journey like many others - I have had a friend who was already into it. After some time in Montreal I moved to Munich in 2015 where I met one of my best friends Ferdinand who was passionate about Whisky already and shared his enthusiasm with me. I fell in love with this product and today I can say that Whisky is more for me than just "Alcohol" it's craftmanship, art and truly something special. Over the course of the past years I have managed to become one of the leading experts in Whisky in Germany featuring articles ar BILD.de, Handelsblatt, Sueddeutsche, Playboy, Business Punk and many more.

For more than a decade, I have dedicated myself with great passion to the world of whisky, uncovering the stories behind legendary brands and hidden treasures. Since launching my Instagram blog Lust auf Whisky in 2019, my focus has been on expressive photography and detailed reviews that capture both the spirit of the drink and the places it comes from. My tasting notes are featured on several well-known whisky platforms and also published in Der Whiskybotschafter magazine. My journeys have taken me across Europe – from the rugged coasts of Scotland to the quiet cellars of Central Europe – where I seek out the craftsmen, landscapes, and traditions that shape each bottle’s character. Through my travel reports, I share these vivid impressions with my readers and followers, offering a personal glimpse into the world behind the whisky glass. Since 2015, I have been part of the organizational team behind Hall of Angels’ Share, one of Germany’s well-established whisky fairs, where I also host tastings. In addition, I have been a member of the Whisky Club Black Forest since 2014 and co-founded a whisky influencer club in 2019.

I still remember how, back in 2017, my roommate poked his head into my room, asking if I’d like to try a couple of whisky samples he got for his birthday. Unsuspecting of the impact this day would have on our lives, we had some Kilbeggan, and then some Clontarf, and then some Jim Beam... As we wanted some record of our experience for future reference, we jotted down a couple of tasting notes onto our white board. When the white board was full, we started a digital list. When we told a couple of friends about what we were doing, they joined in, and before we knew it, we had regular online meetings of our very own whisky tasting group. Flash forward almost ten years now, and I am still having a blast discovering distilleries, experiencing good and bad scotch and most of all arguing with my friends about it. I’ve gone through a couple of phases of preferences, starting with gentle and bright stuff like Knockando to fully matured sherry stuff and cask strenghts. Nowadays, I find myself most partial to simple, but well-made ex-bourbon maturations from the Highland or Speyside region with a much more moderate strong wine influence, if that – Longmorn, Deanston, Glencadam and a few others. Still won’t say no to a good Jim Beam… just kidding, I will. Cheers, guys o/

Today, I see myself as both drinker and collector. I buy with intention, favouring fewer bottles with deeper meaning. Some are opened slowly, others are kept as time capsules, waiting for the right moment. Whisky is no longer just about what’s in the glass — it’s about preservation, context, and respect. And at the centre of my journey still stands Springbank 12 Cask Strength Batch 26, the bottle that changed everything.
