Torabhaig Sound of Sleat: A Peated Journey into the Heart of Skye

Torabhaig Sound of Sleat: A Peated Journey into the Heart of Skye
The fourth chapter in the Legacy series signals a bold step towards the future style of the Torabhaig Distillery
With the launch of Torabhaig Sound of Sleat, the Skye-based Torabhaig Distillery introduces the fourth release in its acclaimed Legacy series. Crafted from Concerto and Laureate malted barley and peated to an impressive 78+ PPM, this single malt whisky reflects the rugged character of its island origin. The release forms part of the distillery’s ambitious roadmap toward a 10-year-old flagship expression, blending tradition with ongoing experimentation to define its house style.
Artistic identity and island roots
The new release showcases a striking visual redesign, with the label and packaging featuring artwork by Skye-based artist Ellis O’Connor. This marks the beginning of a new collaboration with local creatives, aligning the product’s visual identity with its geographical and cultural heritage. The label captures the essence of the Sleat Peninsula, the whisky's namesake, in moody, maritime tones.
Bourbon-forward maturation with a maritime twist
Matured exclusively in American oak—a mix of first-fill and refill bourbon barrels—Sound of Sleat brings forward a classic ex-bourbon cask profile. It melds citrus and spice with a distinctive maritime salinity, wrapped in the bonfire smoke that defines Torabhaig’s style. The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and free from coloring agents—preserving its natural integrity for the discerning enthusiast.
Neil MacLeod Mathieson, the whisky maker at Torabhaig, shares:
“Sound of Sleat returns to a classic ex-bourbon profile, elevated by new American oak spice. With notes of citrus, oak, sea salt, and a newfound waxiness, it’s a journey in every sip—each wave revealing more of the evolving spirit.”
A collectible coastal expression
With only 45,000 bottles released globally, Torabhaig Sound of Sleat is a limited edition single malt that will intrigue collectors and peat lovers alike.
