Just in time for the holiday, independent bottler The Caskhound unveils its newest creation: AROS, a 12-year-old Highland single malt with Hebridean roots and a distinctly vibrant character. Limited to only 245 bottles, this unpeated whisky combines natural cask strength with non-chill filtration and zero artificial colouring, making it a pure expression of its origin. While the exact distillery remains a well-kept secret, the coastal name “Aros” and a label nod to Tobermory’s iconic seafront leave little doubt among whisky insiders.

Distinctive Design with Island Flair

The AROS packaging captures the essence of the Isle of Mull, with a minimalist yet evocative label showcasing the colourful houses of Tobermory. The design reflects both tradition and individuality — a visual homage to island life, sea breezes, and the springtime energy that inspired this bottling. It’s a bottle that stands out in any collector’s cabinet.

Tawny Port Finish for a Layered Whisky Experience

AROS began its journey in a classic ex-bourbon barrel, followed by an impressive 1,396-day finish in a first-fill tawny port barrique. This extended secondary maturation adds a rich depth and complexity to the spirit, balancing fruity elegance with robust maltiness. Bottled at 45.3% ABV, it delivers all its aromas with a soft but powerful presence — like the first warm wind rolling across the Hebrides.

Master Blender's Statement

Tilo Schnabel, the man behind The Caskhound, describes AROS as “like the first warm breath of spring over the Hebrides,” calling it “surprisingly soft, lively, and complex.” The dram is a celebration of seasonal awakening, full of wild fruit character and coastal charm.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Spicy and sweet with notes of mead, fig jam, floral breezes, apricot jelly beans, and vanilla crescents. Hints of orange zest, herbs, and a touch of tobacco add intrigue.
• Palate: Velvety and decadent – berry compote, chocolate pralines, malty sweetness, caramel, goji berries, and candied orange peel wrapped in nutty, winey layers.
• Finish: Long and drying with grape seeds, cinnamon, dark chocolate, walnut, and a subtle salty wood note that evokes the Hebridean coast.
