The Bruichladdich Distillery has introduced the Port Charlotte 18yo 2025 Edition, a highly anticipated release now available in selected specialty retailers in Germany. Following its UK launch earlier this year, this single malt whisky from Islay was distilled in 2001 and showcases the brand’s commitment to authentic, peated Scotch with a distinct Hebridean character. Limited to just 8,000 bottles worldwide, it represents a refined expression matured on the island, capturing both depth and complexity at a balanced 18 years of age.

Design & Presentation

Port Charlotte honors its namesake village near the distillery with a presentation rooted in tradition and locality. While specific packaging details are not noted, the spirit’s heritage and community involvement remain central to its identity, reflecting Bruichladdich’s emphasis on provenance and island craftsmanship.

Maturation & Flavor Profile

This 18-year-old is matured primarily in rare first-fill bourbon casks (53%) and second-fill sherry casks (31%), with 16% of the spirit having undergone 11 years maturation in sherry casks and an additional 5 years in French virgin oak before returning to bourbon barrels. Bottled at 51.5% ABV and peated at 40 PPM, it offers a pronounced saltiness from its Islay maturation, balanced by vanilla, salted caramel, and hazelnut notes from toasted American oak. The whisky’s refined smokiness is complemented by dried fruits, earthy peat, and a rounded sweetness that gains complexity with every sip.

This expression earned the Master title at the Scotch Whisky Masters for its outstanding “salty, sweet, smoky” profile.

Master Blender’s Statement

“Port Charlotte speaks of its island home. This is a spirit rooted in authenticity, provenance, and community. For me, it is everything an Islay Scotch Whisky should be,” says Adam Hannett. He highlights the bourbon maturation as key to the whisky’s light, vibrant character that harmonizes beautifully with its smoky barbecued flavor.
