Octomore 17.x Preview: Peated Power for 2026 Release
A first glimpse at the upcoming Octomore 17.1, 17.2 and 17.3 limited editions
Bruichladdich’s cult series Octomore continues to push the boundaries of heavily peated whisky. While fans are still waiting for the official release of Octomore 16.x, the U.S. TTB label registry has already revealed the specs of the next generation: Octomore 17.1, 17.2, and 17.3 – all expected to arrive in 2026. Each expression promises bold smoke, young age, and distinct cask influence, staying true to Octomore’s philosophy of "super-heavily peated, yet surprisingly elegant."
Design and Presentation
Although official bottle designs have not yet been published, previous Octomore editions suggest we can expect sleek black matte bottles with minimalistic white typography, underlining the series’ iconic, avant-garde aesthetic. The labels registered with the TTB indicate the standard Octomore branding, paired with edition-specific cask details and peat levels – collector-worthy from first glance.
Maturation and Flavor Profile
Each of the upcoming Octomore 17 releases is 5 years old and distilled from Concerto barley, with varying peat intensities and cask strategies:
-
Octomore 17.1: Distilled from Mainland Concerto barley peated to 81 ppm, aged entirely in ex-Bourbon casks, and bottled at a powerful 59.7% ABV.
-
Octomore 17.2: Shares the same 81 ppm peated Concerto barley, but is finished in a mix of Bourbon and Port casks, bringing sweet and fruity depth. Bottled at 59.5% ABV.
-
Octomore 17.3: The terroir-focused edition, using barley from Irene’s Field on Octomore Farm, is heavily peated at a staggering 132.1 ppm. The maturation is complex, featuring a blend of Bourbon, Sauternes, Ribera del Duero, Ice Wine, and Syrah casks. Bottled at 60.9% ABV, it promises an intricate balance of smoke, fruit, and spice.
Conclusion
While the whisky world still awaits the release of Octomore 16.x, the early insight into Octomore 17.x hints at another thrilling chapter in Bruichladdich’s peated saga. With carefully selected casks, varying barley origins, and Octomore’s signature intensity, these whiskies will surely capture the attention of collectors and peat lovers alike. Stay tuned for official tasting notes and release dates as 2026 approaches.
