Exclusive Octomore Single Cask for Germany: A Fusion of Peat and Monbazillac Aromas

Octomore Monbazillac Cask

A Groundbreaking Release from Bruichladdich Distillery

On March 30, 2025, Bruichladdich Distillery unveiled an extraordinary single cask whisky exclusively for the German market. The Octomore Single Monbazillac Cask challenges whisky conventions with its unique maturation and bold character. Known for its extreme peat levels, Octomore consistently defies expectations, and this latest release is no exception. Aged for 11 years in a Second-Fill Monbazillac white wine cask, this limited edition whisky is bottled at a formidable 156 PPM and 60.4% ABV, with only 294 bottles available.

A Striking Presentation

Housed in Octomore’s signature modern bottle, the design reflects the brand’s commitment to both tradition and innovation. The label proudly showcases its Islay provenance, highlighting its experimental cask finish. This exclusive release is a collector’s dream, balancing elegance with a bold whisky statement.

Matured in a Second-Fill Monbazillac cask, this whisky absorbs the rich, sweet nuances of the famous French dessert wine, creating an unparalleled sensory experience.

Maturation and Flavor Complexity

Distilled in 2012, this single malt spent over a decade in a Monbazillac wine cask—a rare choice that significantly impacts its flavor profile. Monbazillac wines, made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes, are known for their high residual sugar and rich, honeyed character. Over time, the cask infused the whisky with layers of sweet, fruity notes that complement the intense peat smoke. The result is a harmonious interplay of smokiness, honeyed sweetness, and dried fruit complexity.

A Word from Bruichladdich's Head Distiller

Adam Hannett, the Head Distiller of Bruichladdich, describes Octomore as an ongoing experiment in pushing whisky boundaries:

“Octomore is designed to challenge perceptions. Looking at its profile, one might expect an overpowering, one-dimensional whisky—but we have created something layered and complex. Crafting new Octomore expressions every year is both a challenge and a privilege.”

Tasting Notes

  • Color: Deep amber with golden reflections
  • Aroma: Intense peat smoke, honeyed apricots, and citrus zest
  • Taste: A bold fusion of smoky campfire, sweet honey, and dried tropical fruits
  • Finish: Long, warming, with lingering spice and wine-like sweetness

This exclusive release will be available from April 4, 2025, at select specialist retailers, with a recommended retail price of €469. Given its limited availability, this unique Octomore is set to become a sought-after collector’s item.
