New Glen Moray & Bruichladdich Whisky Releases
Glen Moray explores orchard sweetness while Bruichladdich unveils a bold Islay rye
Two distinct Scotch whisky innovations are making headlines this week as new releases from Glen Moray and Bruichladdich emerge via the U.S. TTB database. The Speyside-based Glen Moray reveals “Forbidden Fruit Calvados Cask”, a single malt finished in Calvados barrels, while Islay’s Bruichladdich continues its commitment to locally-grown grains with “The Laddie Rye”, distilled from 2017’s Islay rye harvest.
Design and Presentation
The Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit is expected to charm with a label highlighting orchard elegance. The name itself hints at temptation, while the packaging emphasizes sweet pastries and apple blossom, aligning with the Calvados cask finish. Bruichladdich’s The Laddie Rye, true to the distillery’s progressive branding, presents a clean, no-frills look underscoring transparency and terroir.
Maturation and Flavor Profile
Glen Moray’s latest release is finished in Calvados casks, adding layers of orchard fruits, delicate apple blossom, and rich pastry sweetness to the Speyside malt. Bottled at 40% ABV, this expression leans toward a softer, dessert-like profile. Meanwhile, Bruichladdich’s The Laddie Rye draws from a bolder tradition. Distilled from Islay-grown rye harvested in 2017 and matured for seven years in American oak, this release is bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered and natural in color, emphasizing both purity and power.
Master Distiller’s Insight
Back in 2017, Production Director Allan Logan and Master Distiller Adam Hannett marked a milestone by distilling rye cultivated on Islay soil. Their vision culminated in 2023’s inaugural Bruichladdich Rye, and now continues with The Laddie Rye—a whisky rooted in local innovation and agricultural integrity.
