Lochlea Launches Its First Core Range with Three Distinct Single Malts

Orchard & Oak, Dark Briar, and Smoke Without Fire debut in the new Single Estate Collection
Lochlea Distillery, nestled in the Scottish Lowlands, has officially unveiled its first permanent core range after the success of its seasonal releases. The new Single Estate Range consists of three distinctive bottlings—Orchard & Oak, Dark Briar, and Smoke Without Fire—which now stand alongside the distillery’s flagship whisky, Our Barley. Crafted exclusively from 100% homegrown barley on the Lochlea farm, each expression is matured and blended on-site, showcasing the distillery’s commitment to full control over its whisky-making process.
Design and Presentation
The new range reflects Lochlea’s farm-to-bottle philosophy, combining authenticity with modern presentation. All three expressions are bottled at 46% ABV, without chill filtration, highlighting the whisky’s natural character. Priced at £50 (approx. €60), they will be available from September 4th through UK whisky specialists, independent retailers, and in more than 30 international markets.
Maturation and Flavor Profile
Each whisky in the new lineup tells its own story through cask selection and maturation style:

Orchard & Oak – Aged in first-fill bourbon, virgin American oak, and Calvados casks.
- Nose: Fresh green apple, cut grass, and light floral notes.
- Palate: Apple pie, buttery caramel, and warming oak spices.

Dark Briar – Matured in Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso sherry, and port casks.
- Flavor profile: Red berries, vanilla caramel, and baking spices.

Smoke Without Fire – Rested in ex-peated refill bourbon and red wine casks.
- Nose: Red berries, cherry blossoms, and delicate campfire smoke.
- Palate: Salted smoke, campfire wood, and floral undertones.
With the launch of the Single Estate Range, Lochlea establishes itself as a serious player in the whisky world, offering a balanced portfolio that blends tradition with innovation. The trio of Orchard & Oak, Dark Briar, and Smoke Without Fire embodies the distillery’s signature Lowland style while catering to diverse whisky palates—from fruit-forward to richly sherried to subtly smoky.
