Lagavulin and Caol Ila Unveil Bold Limited Editions for Fèis Ìle 2025

Lagavulin 15 Year-Old and Caol Ila 8 Year-Old

Diageo’s Islay Icons Reimagine Tradition with Moscatel and Colombian Oak Finishes

Islay, 24 April 2025 – Whisky lovers worldwide have a reason to celebrate as Lagavulin and Caol Ila, two of Diageo’s most iconic Islay distilleries, unveil their Fèis Ìle 2025 limited editions. With innovative cask finishes and vibrant character, these festival-exclusive bottlings highlight the adventurous spirit of modern Scotch whisky craftsmanship. The Lagavulin Fèis Ìle 2025 15 Year-Old, finished in Moscatel de Málaga casks, and the Caol Ila Fèis Ìle 2025 8 Year-Old, featuring a Colombian Oak cask finish, will be available in small batches of 1,596 and 1,476 bottles respectively.

Both single malts are bottled at natural cask strength—Lagavulin at 55.7% ABV (£240) and Caol Ila at 55.8% ABV (£110)—and will debut at the distilleries during the Fèis Ìle festival on May 24th and 26th, before being made available via malts.com.

Eye-catching Designs Reflect Character and Innovation

The Lagavulin 15 Year-Old and Caol Ila 8 Year-Old arrive in striking packaging tailored for collectors and fans of Islay single malts. Lagavulin’s presentation mirrors the complexity of its Moscatel finish, with dark, elegant tones accented by maritime motifs. Meanwhile, Caol Ila’s bold visual design speaks to the adventurous finishing in rare Colombian Oak, a first for the distillery, reinforcing its commitment to experimentation and evolution.

Exceptional Maturation Meets Signature Distillery Style

Lagavulin’s 15 Year-Old marries its hallmark peat smoke with Moscatel de Málaga casks, bringing layers of salted toffee, ripe berries, and maritime medicinal undertones. The palate is creamy and luxurious, with sweetness, salt, and Sichuan pepper riding on a wave of fragrant smoke.

“We discovered a reference to Moscatel de Málaga hogsheads in our archives. This finish adds beautiful complexity while keeping our iconic smoke intact,” shares the Lagavulin team.

Caol Ila’s 8 Year-Old breaks new ground with a three-cask maturation journey: starting in refill casks, then seasoned with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso, and finally finished in new Colombian Oak casks. This results in a richly waxy, oily texture and an amplified sweetness layered with smoke and pepper.

“The Colombian Oak finish added unexpected sweet and spicy notes. It’s an exciting twist on Caol Ila’s depth,” says Rory Slater, part of the blending team.
