Isle of Raasay Marsala Cask Limited Release Debuts
A First for the Distillery: Full Maturation in Sicilian Marsala Casks
The Isle of Raasay Distillery has announced its latest release — and it’s a milestone for the island’s whisky production. The Isle of Raasay Marsala Cask Limited Release is the first expression fully matured in Sicilian Marsala wine barriques, sourced from the historic Frazzitta winery. These rare Marsala Vergine casks, seasoned with bone-dry Marsala wine for up to 30 years, have imparted remarkable depth and character to the spirit. The release is bottled at 50.7% ABV and will also be available in Germany through importer Kirsch Import.
Design and Presentation Reflecting Raasay’s Landscape
For this limited edition, the distillery introduces a new bottle design inspired by the rugged, natural beauty of the Isle of Raasay. The packaging underscores the distillery’s commitment to presenting its whiskies as both sensory and visual experiences.
Maturation, Character & Master Distiller’s Insight
This single malt combines peated and unpeated spirit made from Diablo and Concerto barley, fermented with Distilamax MW yeast, and filled into cask at 63.5% ABV in July 2021. After nearly four years of maturation exclusively in ex-Marsala barriques, it was vatted in June 2025 and bottled the following month on-site at the Isle of Raasay Distillery.
Master Distiller and Co-Founder Alasdair Day notes:
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Grape must, sweet notes, slight sharpness, parma violets
- Palate: Stewed apples, ginger, maple syrup, sweet pear, balsamic vinegar
- Finish: Long and lingering smoke
