The Glasgow Distillery marks a decade of whisky-making with a new release: Glasgow 1770 10-Year-Old Sauternes Cask Matured, a limited edition single malt bottled in collaboration with Royal Mile Whiskies. With just 340 bottles available, this unpeated expression will be unveiled exclusively at the Whisky Fringe festival in Edinburgh, from August 8 to 10, before a limited number of bottles are offered online.

A Refined and Elegant Presentation

This commemorative release stays true to the Glasgow Distillery’s modern aesthetic—clean lines, bold typography, and premium packaging. The bottle mirrors the confident identity of the Glasgow 1770 range, combining tradition and innovation, while the gold-accented label hints at the Sauternes cask’s luxurious influence.

Maturation in a Refill Sauternes Barrique

Fully matured in a refill French Sauternes barrique, this single malt whisky develops a fruit-forward and delicately sweet profile without overwhelming the base spirit.

At 53% ABV, the spirit reflects a decade of aging in American white oak that previously held Sauternes sweet wine. According to Mike Hayward, Founder of The Glasgow Distillery:

“Being a refill barrique, the Sauternes influence is present but not overpowering... creating a harmonious balance of whisky and wood.”

The cask imparts notes of poached pear, tropical fruit, salted caramel, and a hint of cinnamon spice, all underpinned by the caramel and malty character of American oak.
