Ardnamurchan AD/The Midgie Whisky Now Available Globally
The mischievous summer single malt returns—now available in Germany
The Ardnamurchan Distillery is bringing back its cheekiest creation: AD/The Midgie, a spirited single malt dedicated to Scotland’s most infamous summer pest—the Highland midge. First launched in the UK in 2024 to resounding success, this limited edition release now goes global with 16,500 bottles, officially available in Germany from June 2025. Distilled with a sense of humor and Highland pride, this whisky captures the wild charm of the West Highlands and delivers it in a dram that bites back—in all the right ways.
Design and Presentation
Housed in a clear glass bottle made from 54% recycled glass, AD/The Midgie aligns with Ardnamurchan’s commitment to sustainability. The embossed logo adds a tactile dimension to the bottle’s modern aesthetic. Each bottle is unchill-filtered, presented at natural colour, and comes equipped with a QR code on the back label, unlocking blockchain-enabled details on cask origins, maturation, and the story behind the dram. It’s whisky transparency with a digital twist.
Maturation and Flavor Profile
This lively expression is a marriage of peated (25%) and unpeated (75%) spirits, distilled in 2017, 2018, and 2019, then matured in a thoughtful combination of 50% Bourbon barrels, 48% Port barriques, and 2% Sherry casks. Bottled at a robust 48.0% ABV, it delivers a vibrant balance of sweetness, smoke, savoury notes, and summer florals, evoking long evenings by the loch—without the bite of real midgies.

Conclusion
With its limited batch size, eco-conscious design, and playful tribute to Scotland’s summertime nemesis, AD/The Midgie is more than just a seasonal release—it’s a celebration of Highland character in both flavor and spirit. Whether you're sipping it in Glasgow, New York, or under the German summer sky, this whisky proves that the smallest creatures—and the most creative single malts—leave the longest impressions.
