Ardbeg Anthology Series – Limited Single Malts

The Ardbeg Anthology series is a limited collection of single malt whiskies that combines Ardbeg’s classic character with experimental maturation methods. Each edition is inspired by mythical creatures linked to Islay, with the aim of creating unique, sweeter, and more delicate flavors.

Experimenting with maturation: Ardbeg is renowned for its classic, heavily peated whiskies, but the Anthology series allowed the distillers to experiment with different types of casks: Sauternes, Madeira, bourbon, and even specially charred casks. This opened the door to new flavor discoveries – sweeter, fruitier, or spicier – while still preserving Ardbeg’s signature peaty profile.

Stories and mythology: Each edition has its own “mythical creature” from Islay as inspiration: Harpy, Unicorn, Beithir. This gives the series a narrative dimension, allowing the brand to build emotional connections, not just flavor-based ones. The whiskies in this series are not just drinks, but also stories and sensory experiences.

Ardbeg Anthology: The Harpy’s Tale (13 Years Old)

The first edition of the series, released in 2023, matured for 13 years in Sauternes wine casks and bourbon casks. The aroma is dominated by olive oil, herbal notes, waxy undertones, and vanilla, while the palate reveals caramel, vanilla, and smoked wood.

Flavor symbolism:

◦ Herbal accents, olive oil, waxy notes → wildness and natural character.

◦ Caramel, vanilla, and smoked wood → sweetness and Ardbeg’s smoky essence.

Interpretation: The Harpy represents harmony between wildness and sweetness, perfectly reflecting the balance of peaty smoke and cask-born fruitiness.

Ardbeg Anthology: The Unicorn’s Tale (14 Years Old)

The second edition, released in 2024, matured for 14 years in a combination of bourbon and Madeira wine casks. It is characterized by aromas of lime, mandarin, banana bread, and white pepper, alongside notes of smoked fruit, baked bread, licorice, creosote, and anise. The flavor merges Ardbeg’s classic smoky character with fruity sweetness.

Ardbeg Anthology: The Beithir’s Tale (15 Years Old)

The third and final edition of the series, released in 2025, matured for 15 years in specially prepared bourbon casks that were air-seasoned, heavily charred, and lightly toasted. It features a deep smoky flavor with notes of spice and wood.

I am in love with the world of whisky since 2021 after the first films about testing and discovering flavors. the story began with a bottle of Talisker 10, earlier of course brands such as glendifich or johnie walker appeared but it was Talisker that opened my eyes to the diversity of flavors and scents. currently with over 800 whiskies tried and head over heels in love with the climates of islay. finds his flavors in bottles such as ardbeg or lagavulin but I also willingly reach for peated whiskies such as glendronach sweet fruity climates of Speyside.
