Ardbeg The Abyss is one of the most exclusive and spectacular releases in the history of the Islay distillery. Strictly limited to just 400 bottles worldwide and aged for 34 years, this single malt pays tribute to the legendary heart of the original Corryvreckan Committee Release of 2008. Matured in rare, heavily toasted French oak casks from 1989 — the very cask type that gave Corryvreckan its infamous power — The Abyss is bottled at cask strength and delivers an intense yet remarkably elegant character. The nose reveals toasted marshmallows, aromatic tea leaves, roasted chestnuts, sourdough bread, demerara sugar, lemon balm and antique leather. On the palate, bold flavours of dark chocolate, pecan toffee, clove, ginger, leather, treacle, creosote and smoke unfold in a rich, mellow texture. The long finish lingers with baked apple, aniseed and oak. Each bottle is presented in a bespoke collector’s case including a limited edition comic book illustrated by acclaimed artist Tradd Moore — making The Abyss a true modern Ardbeg legend.
