Lochlea 6yo: limited anniversary bottling to mark the sixth birthday of the distillery

To mark the sixth anniversary of Lochlea Distillery, an up-and-coming distillery in the Scottish Lowlands, a limited-edition anniversary bottling will be released on January 24, 2025: Lochlea 6yo.

This edition follows on from the success of Lochlea 5yo, which sold out in a single day last year.

The casks used for the Lochlea 6yo were again those in use the year the distillery was founded. The selection of the three Oloroso sherry casks and three bourbon barrels was undertaken by the new Master Blender Jill Boyd and Distillery Manager Darren McCormick.

According to Boyd, the rich fruit notes of juicy berries, dates and candied ginger from the sherry casks combine with the delicate vanilla and caramel from the bourbon casks. “The finish is rich and long-lasting, with silky tannins and warm oak spices,” explains Boyd.

The release of the limited edition of 2,500 bottles falls on a special date: the day before Burns Night, which celebrates the Scottish national poet Robert Burns. Burns lived at Lochlea Farm from 1777 to 1784, giving the distillery a historic connection to this Scottish cultural heritage.

The anniversary edition will be available in the UK at a price of 90 pounds. A price for Germany is not yet known, but whisky enthusiasts should hurry, as high demand is expected.

Flavor profile of Lochlea 6yo

Aroma: Ripe berries, sticky dates, candied ginger and a hint of oak spice.

Taste: A harmonious blend of sweet vanilla, light caramel, juicy fruit and subtle sherry notes.

Finish: Long and smooth, with silky tannins, warm spices and a hint of wood smoke.

With the Lochlea 6yo, the young distillery once again proves its potential to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with in the whisky world.
