Glasgow Distillery's New Wine Cask Whiskies Launch

A bold trio of single malts aged in rare wine casks set to launch May 13

The Glasgow Distillery continues to push the boundaries of Scotch whisky innovation with the release of three new limited-edition single malts. Part of the acclaimed Small Batch Series, these expressions are finished in rare and distinctive wine casks — Constantia, Syrah, and Pineau des Charentes — each bringing a unique flavor signature to the distillery's contemporary whisky range. All three whiskies are five years old and have undergone nearly two years of secondary maturation, delivering complex, fruit-driven profiles and bold character. Launching on May 13 in the UK and Germany, each expression is bottled at cask strength and available in very limited quantities.

Design and Presentation

The packaging reflects Glasgow Distillery’s commitment to craftsmanship and experimental flair. Each bottling showcases sleek labeling with cask-specific color accents, underlining the individuality of each wine cask influence. Presented in modern, elegant bottles, these whiskies appeal to both collectors and flavor seekers drawn to rare, innovative finishes.

Maturation and Flavor Profile

  • Glasgow 1770 Constantia Wine Cask Matured (56.6% ABV): Finished in South African dessert wine casks, this unpeated whisky bursts with apricot, peach, pink grapefruit, clementine, rich manuka honey, and dark chocolate. Only 980 bottles are available.

  • Glasgow 1770 Syrah Wine Cask Matured (59.3% ABV): Also unpeated, this expression matured in Greek Syrah red wine casks from Euboea. It offers deep notes of blackberry, raspberry, strawberry jam, black cherry, dark chocolate, and pink pepper, layered over rich vanilla and caramel. Limited to 652 bottles.

  • Glasgow 1770 Pineau des Charentes Wine Cask Matured (58.7% ABV): The only peated whisky in the trio, this expression began its journey in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to a French Pineau des Charentes cask. It delivers bold aromas of toffee apple, maple smoked ham, walnuts, orange zest, and floral green peppercorn spice. Just 303 bottles have been released.

Master Blender’s Statement

“At The Glasgow Distillery, we are always looking for ways to push boundaries and explore new dimensions of flavour,” said Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow Distillery. “These three releases showcase the remarkable impact that different wine casks can have on our whisky... perhaps our most experimental whiskies yet.”

Conclusion

With only 1,935 bottles produced across all three expressions, these limited editions are a testament to Glasgow Distillery’s bold vision and commitment to flavour innovation. Whisky enthusiasts in the UK and Germany can secure their bottles from May 13 via the Glasgow Distillery website and select retailers, priced at £59 each. A must-have for collectors, these expressions highlight the creative frontier of modern single malt Scotch whisky.
