Girvan 60-Year-Old Whisky: House of Hazelwood's Rare Legacy

A legacy begins with a historic 60-Year-Old release destined to become the world’s first 100-Year-Old single grain whisky

House of Hazelwood has introduced a bold and visionary collection, "One For The Next", starting with the exclusive release of a Girvan 60-Year-Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky. Limited to only 25 bottles worldwide, this rare expression celebrates Girvan Distillery's 60th anniversary and marks the beginning of a journey that will culminate in 2065 with the unveiling of a historic 100-Year-Old grain whisky. Crafted from casks originally filled in 1964 under the supervision of whisky pioneer Charles Gordon, this series reflects House of Hazelwood’s commitment to preserving and evolving their private stock for future generations.

Design and Presentation: A family heirloom in every sense

Each of the 25 bottles of the Girvan 60-Year-Old will be presented in a bespoke display cabinet, crafted from wood harvested directly from Hazelwood House’s garden, the Gordon family’s Speyside estate. This carefully considered design underlines the whisky's role as a collectible and an heirloom, intended to be passed down and cherished. Buyers of this first release will also receive exclusive access to a private microsite offering yearly updates on maturation, ownership certificates, and invitations to owner-only events.

Maturation and Flavor Profile: A delicate masterpiece six decades in the making

The whisky’s journey began in 1964, with several casks chosen for their exceptional quality. While just 25 bottles have been released today, the remaining whisky has been transferred into custom European oak hogsheads for continued aging, with releases planned every decade until 2065. This meticulous approach ensures that the whisky will continue to evolve gracefully, offering future generations the opportunity to taste history in its purest form.

Master Blender’s Vision: Crafting whisky for the future

Kirsten Grant Meikle, niece of Charles Gordon and custodian of the family tradition, shared heartfelt thoughts:

“Our family has always laid whisky down for those who come next. This is our family story, and for future generations, opening these bottles will be a chance to taste whisky as it journeys through the decades.”

Jonathan Gibson, Director of House of Hazelwood, emphasized the series' deeper meaning:

“This collection is not about speculation but about celebrating whisky’s character, story, and legacy. Those who join us on this journey become part of something truly pioneering.”

Tasting Notes: A showcase of elegant complexity

  • Nose: Barley sugar sweetness, progressing to currants, candied fruit, and toasted almonds reminiscent of celebration cakes
  • Palate: Light vibrancy with citrus tang and the lively bite of green Granny Smith apples
  • Finish: Perfectly poised and delicate, balancing sweetness and freshness — a true joy to sip

Conclusion: More than a whisky — a generational treasure

The House of Hazelwood Girvan 60-Year-Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky is more than just a limited edition; it is the first chapter in a 100-year journey of whisky excellence. Priced at £10,000 per bottle and available exclusively through House of Hazelwood and WG&S Distillers Libraries, this release is crafted for true enthusiasts and collectors eager to witness the evolution of a grain whisky masterpiece. As the series unfolds, it promises to become one of the most historic and captivating stories in the whisky world.
