Ardbeg Traigh Bhan Batch 7: Final 19-Year-Old Whisky

Final release of the 19-year-old single malt marks the end of an era

The iconic Islay distillery Ardbeg has unveiled the seventh and final batch of its acclaimed Ardbeg Traigh Bhan series – a 19-year-old single malt that has captivated whisky enthusiasts since its debut in 2019. Named after the "singing sands" of Traigh Bhan beach on Islay’s southern coast, this edition closes the chapter with an exceptional balance of power and elegance. Batch 7 is distinguished by the highest proportion of first-fill Oloroso sherry casks ever used in the series, offering an intensified, rich flavor profile. Now available in Germany through Ardbeg Embassies and select retailers, this limited edition whisky is priced at a recommended €280.

Design and Presentation

Every Traigh Bhan release is marked by a unique batch code, a distillery icon, and a signature – this year, by David Pender, Ardbeg’s Whisky Stock & Blending Manager. True to its heritage, Batch 7 is bottled at 50.3% ABV, non-chill filtered, and free of coloring, capturing the natural essence of Islay. The dark golden hue reflects the whisky’s extended aging and deep cask influence.

Maturation and Flavor Profile

Aged for 19 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, this final batch leans heavily into the richness of first-fill sherry wood. The result is a bold yet balanced character, blending salty toffee, espresso, and warming spices with Ardbeg’s signature medicinal smoke. The complexity is heightened by a slightly higher ABV, enhancing both texture and intensity.

Master Blender's Statement

Gillian MacDonald, Ardbeg’s Master Blender, describes the finale as “the impossible balance” realized:

“With the seventh and final bottling, we used particularly many Oloroso sherry casks and intensified the character with a higher ABV. This is Ardbeg Traigh Bhan going out with a bang!”

Blending Manager David Pender adds:

“Traigh Bhan is named after one of my favorite places on Islay. Discovering the differences between the batches has been like a fascinating journey. I hope Ardbeg fans experience that same journey with the final release.”
